The Centre for Research into Objects and Puppets in Performance (CROPP) will facilitate practical and academic research projects by members and associates.
It provides a focus for UK-based puppetry research to: document and archive processes and projects; disseminate research findings through publication, performance, national and international networks, conferences and related meetings.
The centre brings together scholars and research-based practitioners to explore and develop both written and practical scholarly research into puppetry, object theatre and related forms, through laboratory-based experimental and applied practice, and through engagement with academic research into historical approaches, forms and perspectives and contemporary puppetry and object theatre internationally.
Puppetry and object theatre research is an emergent and exciting new field; high-profile companies and practitioners such as English National Opera, the National Theatre, Complicite and Blind Summit now use puppetry regularly.
CROPP hosts part of the unique Puppet Centre Trust’s archive and collaborates with the Little Angel Theatre, Theatre-Rites and other companies to explore and extend traditional understandings of puppetry and objects in performance.
